Esomeprazole is a prescription medicine used to treat and ulcers caused by certain types of stomach ulcers. It belongs to a class of drugs known as proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs). Nexium is used to treat these conditions caused by the production of a substance called hydroxytyrosol which is a byproduct of the breakdown of stomach acid. When Nexium is used to treat these conditions, it prevents the release of acid in the stomach when there is acid in the esophagus (g) which results in the stomach being upset. It does this by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach. This allows the lining of the stomach to function normally.
Nexium does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases (such as trichomoniasis, gonorrhea). It also does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (such as chlamydia) because it is a type of HIV infection. Taking Nexium may also not work for these reasons, such as some patients who are unable to take Nexium to treat their conditions because they have to take it on an empty stomach. Nexium does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (such as gonorrhea). If you have sex with men, you will most likely not have to take Nexium.
