AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals (AZ) announced on March 15 that it has entered into an agreement with AstraZeneca Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (AZK) for an exclusive license to manufacture and market Nexium 24HR Tablets. AZK will manufacture and market the medication for a period of 14 years from March 2012 to December 2016.

The agreement is subject to certain conditions. AZK shall not have the exclusive right to sell, supply, or sell the medication to AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals except upon the condition that it is approved for sale by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The exclusive rights granted to AZK for manufacturing and market Nexium are governed by a series of regulatory provisions.

AZK’s agreement with AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals will serve as a sole and exclusive licensee of all rights, privileges and benefits of the Company. AZK will also receive regulatory approval and will make necessary and reasonable changes to its manufacturing processes. AZK will continue to market and sell the product. The OTC facility is expected to begin selling the product in the near future. The OTC facility will supply the medication to AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals.
